A Gentler Kind of Care
We understand if coming here feels hard
Whatever your history with dentistry — we’re glad you found us. Helping nervous and anxious patients feel genuinely safe is something we’ve dedicated our careers to, here in Mansfield and across the world.

Feeling anxious about the dentist is more common than you might think
Whether it's the sound of the drill, a difficult experience years ago, the feeling of losing control in the chair, or simply not knowing what's coming — whatever brought you here, it makes complete sense. Dental anxiety is real, and it keeps so many people from getting the care they deserve.
Our team has spent careers working with anxious and phobic patients — including as lead clinicians in specialist anxiety dental programmes in Vancouver, Canada. We've sat with patients who hadn't seen a dentist in ten years. We've had patients who needed to simply sit in the waiting room for a while before they were ready. We've worked with people whose fear ran very deep. Every single one of them was met with the same patience, warmth, and care. That's what we bring to Mansfield.

You don't have to keep avoiding the dentist because of fear. We've walked this path with thousands of people before you, and we'd be honoured to walk it with you too.
Our commitment to you
We always listen before we do anything
Our first priority isn't to fix your teeth — it's to make you feel genuinely safe and heard. Every anxious patient who comes to us gets a real conversation first. Tell us what happened, what worries you, and what "feeling okay" looks like for you. We'll take it from there, entirely on your terms.

“Some of our most meaningful moments as clinicians have been with anxious patients. People who thought they’d never get through a dental appointment, who left feeling proud of themselves. That’s the work that matters to us.”
— The team at Delatite Dental, Mansfield
We will never rush you, dismiss what you're feeling, or move forward before you're ready. There is no judgment in this practice — only kindness, time, and a genuine desire to help.
Why we're different
What to expect when you come to us as an anxious patient
There’s no standard script here. Your experience is shaped by you. But here’s what most of our nervous patients find helpful:
Tell us before you arrive
When you book, simply mention that you’re nervous. Our front desk team are trained to flag this and our dentist will prepare for a gentler, slower visit from the outset. No surprises.
We start with a conversation, not an instrument
Your first appointment begins with a genuine chat — in a normal chair, not the dental one. You tell us your history, your worries, and what you’d like from your care. Nothing happens until you’re ready.
You always have a stop signal
We agree on a hand signal before we begin — raise your hand and everything stops, immediately, no questions asked. Control is yours throughout.
We explain everything before we do it
No unexpected sounds, sensations, or instruments. We narrate as we go — “I’m going to put a small mirror near your tooth now” — so nothing catches you off guard.
We go only as far as you’re comfortable
If you need to stop after step one and come back next week, that’s a successful appointment. Progress is progress, no matter how small.
Ways we can help
There's more than one way to make this easier
We tailor our approach to you. Here are some of the things we can offer — we'll talk through what feels right together:
Pre-appointment phone or email consultation
Talk to us before you even visit. Sometimes just knowing who you'll see and what to expect is enough to make the first step possible.
Comfort visits — no treatment required
Come in just to meet the team and see the space. We'll show you around, introduce ourselves, and you can leave whenever you want. No drills, no instruments, no pressure.
Premedication
For patients with significant anxiety, we can discuss prescribed oral sedation taken before your appointment. It takes the edge off without putting you to sleep — you arrive feeling calmer, and we do the rest.
Distraction techniques
Music through headphones, a stress ball to hold, or simple breathing cues from our team — small things that keep your mind somewhere calmer during treatment.
Fully explained, step-by-step treatment
We break every procedure into small steps and check in between each one. You're never just a mouth — you're a person, and we treat you as one.
IV sedation referral
For patients with severe anxiety, we can refer you to a specialist for treatment under full IV sedation, so you can get necessary care without the experience itself being traumatic.
We've heard it all
Things patients worry about — and how we approach them
These are the concerns we hear most often. If yours isn't here, please tell us — there's nothing we haven't heard before.
"I'm scared of the needle."
We apply a topical numbing gel first, wait for it to work, then use the finest needles available with a slow, gentle technique. Most patients are surprised they barely feel it.
"I can't stand the drill sound."
We offer headphones and music during procedures, and we always warn you before the drill starts. You can also ask us to turn it off at any time and take a break.
"I feel out of control in the chair."
The stop signal is your safeguard. Your hand goes up, everything stops. No exceptions. You are always in control of what happens.
"I'm embarrassed about my teeth."
We don't judge teeth — we fix them. Our team has seen everything, and our only thought when you open your mouth is how we can help. Full stop.
"I had a bad experience as a child."
Past trauma is real and it shapes how we feel. We take this seriously, and we never minimise it. We'll work through your history together and build trust from scratch.
"I'm scared it'll hurt."
Modern dentistry, done well, should not hurt. We use effective anaesthesia, check in constantly, and stop immediately if you feel discomfort. Your comfort is our first measure of success.
A few questions we hear often
Not at all. You can simply say “I get anxious at the dentist” and that’s enough for us to adjust our approach. If you want to share more, we’ll listen carefully. If you’d rather not, that’s completely fine too.
You can leave whenever you need to — no questions asked, no disappointment from us. We’d rather you leave feeling okay than stay feeling distressed. We’ll book you in again when you’re ready.
Absolutely. Many of our anxious patients bring a partner, family member, or friend. Having someone familiar in the room can make a significant difference, and we welcome support people in our treatment rooms.
Premedication involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment to help reduce anxiety. You remain awake and aware throughout — it simply takes the edge off so you feel calmer walking in. It’s not right for everyone, but for patients with higher levels of anxiety it can make an enormous difference. We’ll have a proper conversation about your health history before recommending anything.
No. Never. We understand that anxiety is often exactly why people don’t come back for a long time. It’s a cycle — fear leads to avoidance, avoidance leads to guilt, guilt makes it harder to come back. Our job is to break that cycle with kindness, not add to it with judgment.
Yes — we call these comfort visits, and we genuinely encourage them for anxious patients. Come in, meet the team, see the rooms, have a cup of tea if you like. Then leave. No treatment, no obligation. Just familiarity, which is often the most powerful anxiety-reducer of all.
Whenever you're ready,we'll be here.
Reach out in whatever way feels easiest. A phone call, an email, or a booking — there’s no wrong way to start.
